Training Materials

LTS trainers and consultants have been leading writers of training materials for business and professional English since 1980. Starting with The Economist: an English Language Guide, more than 30 books written by LTS trainers have been published by international companies such as Pearson Longman, Oxford University Press and Heinle Cengage Learning.

The most recent publications are six specialist titles - Accounting and Finance, Business Law, Human Resources, Logistics Management, Marketing and Working Across Cultures - as part of the well known Market Leader series published by Pearson Longman.

Some other well known publications include Negotiating, Giving Presentations and Meetings and Discussion, part of the Longman Business English Skills series published in the 1990s. Other books from the same publisher have been Banking and Finance and International Management, part of the Market Leader series.

LTS director, Adrian Pilbeam, is also a regular contributor to the Market Leader Premier Subscription website. This offers self-study lessons based on recent articles from The Financial Times and the FT.com website. Over 1000 lessons are currently available and more are added weekly. Subscriptions can be obtained on-line.

For other publishers we have written Big City 2 and Big City 3, which accompany the video and DVD of the same name (Oxford University Press) and several books in the Best Practice series (Heinle ELT).

In addition, we are often commissioned to write training materials for a client's own use. Examples include a video based self study programme on the English of the paper industry for UPM in Finland, a banking English course for the Institute of Banking in Kuwait, and an Agricultural English course for Egyptian vocational schools,

We have also participated in several European projects to produce training materials. One is Tools for Business, a distance learning business English course, which was an EU Leonardo funded project in partnership with FINTRA, Finland.

In 2006-2008 we were a partner on another EU Leonardo project called Uniform Railway Language for Safer Europe. The aim of the project was to produce training materials for a course called English for Train Drivers, as well as a glossary of specific railway terms in several languages and a language portfolio.

On all our courses we tailor the course contents to the needs of the course participants and use both LTS in-house materials as well as carefully selected published materials relevant to the course participants‘ needs and professional background. On Individual Tuition and Combination courses, we also integrate participants‘ own work documents into the training to make these courses totally customised. All training material and a copy of the LTS Language Reference Guide are included in the price for courses in Bath.
